Melissa and Cathy met in early childhood as neighbours growing up in Cambridge, ON.  They are soul sisters; friends at first sight.  Life has woven each other into the fabric of their lives.  They’ve remained connected even during periods of distance over the years.

Cathy has been practicing yoga for 20 years and always envisioned teaching someday.  She is a long time RMT, an expert on nervous system regulation and source of calm for her students and patients.
Melissa has been on a deep and transformative healing journey for close to two decades; she has explored widely in the realm of spirituality.  She has read countless books, shared deep conversations and cultivated a deep and connected world view.  She has immersed herself in deep study of many religions and spiritual schools of thought.

As has been the case for the duration of their friendship, one cannot rest until the other explores their passions.  Yoga was no different.  Cathy knew for years that it was going to be Melissa’s calling—one of many! This is a great time to mention Melissa is also a gifted musician as well as an incredible visual artist.

For years, Cathy gently (and relentlessly!) encouraged Melissa to begin a yoga practice.  True to Melissa’s character, once she put her mind to exploring yoga, she dove deep: she quickly adopted a daily practice and studied yoga philosophy.  Before long she completed her yoga teacher training.

The Lighthouse Alliance emerged organically as most partnerships do.  Both women completed their Yoga Teacher Training a few years prior; neither were sure when or how they wanted to teach formally.  Cathy began her yoga teaching journey a couple of years later and quickly realized that she wanted to do more than run weekly classes.  That combined with a love for Prince Edward Island sparked a dream to run a yoga retreat near the New London Lighthouse. Telling Melissa about it one day, they decided spontaneously that they would run the first Lighthouse Retreat together.   Loving the imagery and symbolism of lighthouses, and when it became clear that this first retreat was the beginning of a growing vision, they decided to name the business “The Lighthouse Alliance”.  If you’ve seen Cathy’s cute lighthouse tattoo—it came before the business was even in the dreaming stages!!

The Lighthouse Alliance is more than just yoga.  It's about community. It's about gathering like minded souls to co-create spiritual connection.  We are SO much more powerful when we sit in communion with each other.  When we learn from each other.  When we get quiet enough to listen.  When we are safe enough to connect to within to the part of us that is universal.

We all shine a light into the darkness when we are brave enough to be ourselves.
